How do contactor relays work?

Current passes through the contactor which is responsible for exciting the electromagnetic core. Due to this flow of electricity, a magnetic field is created, which affects the electrical contacts.

Contacts are of different types, but they primarily have a common quality of high welding resistance and stable arc resistance. These contacts are also durable against erosion and mechanical stress for longer performance and durability. A contactor usually has a movable contact and a fixed one. The magnetic field causes them to form a normal, closed circuit which is responsible for switching on the motor. The enclosure binds the sensitive components of a contactor and its function is simply protection. As soon as the flow of current is stopped, the electromagnetic core loses its energy and returns to its neutral state, resulting in an open circuit. This, in turn, switches the electric motor off.
